Laughter in Helmand

We sent a dozen or so copies of Picking Up The Brass out to Afghanistan, via Charlie 'Eddy Nugent' Bell's old mate, Chris.
Chris features in the book under a different name, having joined the Royal Signals with Charlie back in the 1980s (we'll spare his blushes by not revealing which character he is).
Anyway, he sent this email yesterday:

We have recently returned from the Afghanistan “gig” and I would like to send my thanks from all the Troops in my location and several Forward Operating Bases that I managed to get the book to.

It certainly raised the morale of the soldiers, as regardless of age, they could all identify with something within the book and consequently “laugh out loud” actions were heard across Helmand.

Many thanks again to you, your team and also to Charlie and Ian for putting the “lies” on paper (I was there remember!!) – It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We are now waiting for book number 2 – “The Map of Africa”, what a title…..excellent.

Compared to what the soldiers are going through, and what some other people have done and given, it was a tiny gesture, but it's nice to think that one of our books made a few of the squaddies out there smile.
